Lake Rotomahana Boat Cruise (bus + boat cruise )
- Kesto: 2 Tunnit (noin)
- Paikka: Rotorua, Bay of Plenty
- Tuotekoodi: bus + boat
Cruise the tranquil waters of Lake Rotomahana and discover the history of the Mount Tarawera eruption while seeing thermal activity not accessible by foot.
The deepest lake in the North Island and the newest of all New Zealand's larger naturally formed lakes, Lake Rotomahana has a completely separate geothermal system.
On your guided 45-minute boat cruise you will be amazed by the spectacular geothermal activity that can be viewed only by boat, and cruise over the site of the famous Pink & White Terraces. Renowned in the 19th Century as the 8th Wonder of the World, they were thought to be completely destroyed by the 1886 Tarawera eruption. Recently, however, remnants have been discovered covered by sediment at the bottom of the lake.
Lake Rotomahana is a protected wildlife refuge and home to a large number of birds all year round.
The lake and surrounding land are protected from development, ensuring they will always remain as one of New Zealand's beautiful, unspoilt, natural, wilderness areas.
Patiti Island, in the middle of the Lake, has been restored by Waimangu Volcanic Valley Ltd, to be free from animal pests and a safe environment for local birds.
